The Chartist Trials at Monmouth

In the summer of 2010 the Shire Hall, renovated with £3m Heritage Lottery funding, reopens  - to tell the story of the Trial of John Frost staged there in January 1840.

CHARTISM is featuring in a national education conference being held at Newport University  July 19th-20th  2010.
History Teacher Education Network is bringing its annual conference to the Caerleon Campus and will showcase the Chartist Project pioneered in south Wales. 
Challenging History? - Heritage and Media in Primary and Secondary Education         agenda includes:
* Val Williams (Chance Encounters Theatre) performing as a 'Chartist wife'
* Getting  the Chartist Story into Schools Workshop

'The Church Sit-In of April 1839' will be commemorated at St. Pauls Church, Newport at Noon on Saturday 24th April.
Henry Vincent led a large number of Chartists into the Church during divine service on Sunday 21st April 1839 and sat silently in protest in the pews as the Vicar delivered an anti-Chartist sermon.
